NYS DOL Hazard Abatement Grant 2008

Article 29 of the New York State Labor Law established a TRAINING AND EDUCATION PROGRAM ON OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH (the Program) and charged the New York State Occupational Safety and Health Hazard Abatement Board (the Board) with the responsibility for awarding funds to eligible grantees. Under the terms of a Memorandum of Agreement, the Board gave the NYS Dept. of Labor (the Department) authority to administer the Program. This grant money is available to train your workforce.

The Hazard Abatement Board (HAB) awards grants for programs that provide occupational safety and health training for public and private employers, labor organizations, educational institutions, non-profit organizations and trade associations. Eligible programs must train and educate workers, supervisors and/or employers and must promote workplace accident and injury prevention. Approximately $6.5 million funding for training and education grants to a variety of employers and organizations throughout New York State. These grants strive to make the workplace safer through training of the workers’ in a wide variety of safety and health topics. Normally, grants approved by the HAB range in size from $1,000 to over $300,000.

The Board also administers Capital Abatement Program grants to public employers. These grants cover 75% of the cost of capital projects necessary to correct workplace hazards cited by the Public Employee Safety and Health Bureau (PESH) or where recommended in a consultation report. Additionally, the Board may recommend safety and health standards in accordance with the State Labor Law.

The goal of the Program is to promote safe and healthful conditions in the workplace through training, education, and other proven preventive programs.
